Boeing: 'The 737 MAX is safe' — days before the second fatal crash

The promise
“We're confident in the safety of the 737 MAX. Safety is a core value for everyone at Boeing and the safety of our airplanes, our customers' passengers and their crews is always our top priority.”
Five months after the Lion Air 737 MAX crash killed 189 people, Boeing publicly affirmed the aircraft was safe. Two days later, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed using the same MCAS system, killing 157. Internal communications later disclosed in court showed Boeing employees had described the plane as 'designed by clowns who in turn are supervised by monkeys'.
